01 / Challenge

Reading about DNS, TLS, and firewalls only gets you so far. I wanted the version where it's my hardware, my domain, and my problem at 2am when something stops resolving.

02 / Approach

I run heynishant.in end-to-end on home hardware: OS hardening, Apache, DNS records, port forwarding, SSL/TLS certificates, and firewall rules, each piece configured by hand so I understand exactly what every layer is doing and why.

03 / Outcome

99%+ uptime on a self-hosted box, and a working mental model of how a request actually travels from a browser to my living room and back. The best networking course I've taken is the one I'm still running.
